  1. I don't know what to say about this article at all, it is kind of stunning to me that this social scientist could discover such things. But to every theory there is another yet probably more convincing opinion from somewhere else. I think that they being black superstars should be treated just the same as a white superstar they should not carry the burden of race. I do believe that all famous people should watch their ID! There is too much impulsive judgements being made, sportsmanship is dying but it is up to everyone to bring it back not just a black superstar. We should be dissecting every thing then to make such a judgement or a outspoken opinion. There is more to everything then what we see.

  2. I think we are too sensitive. We aren't really aggressive when we address the way that athletes act today. We have yet to make an example out of somebody; so that leaves the door open for anybody else to do what they want because they know that the consequence isn't going to be that harsh. In some weird kind of way we find their outbursts amusing and not offensive. We don't realize that by allowing the athletes to use profound language everytime they get mad or lose, we lose the respect that we have for our race and ourselves. Not only that, we give spectators and critics a reason to talk about us and there is no way to de-bunk what they say. For every good thing an athlete does, there is always two more bad things to top that.

  3. We are too sensitive. It is not that sensitive to get all hyped up over dumb stuff. People need to calm down and stop taking what these athletes say to heart. Don't we have more important things to discuss? I really don't care about sportsmanship because I really don't care about sports. If people want to act rude or whatever, it's their
prerogative. Why should we be all up in their business? All people get mad and try to argue about it. Some people just don't know how to do things with grace. I'm not condoning it, but if you get in trouble for it, it's your problem.

  4. I think we are a little to sensitive in what atheletes say during a competitive game. The media tends to drag it out like everybody cares. For example Serena Williams getting heated at the refuree for a bad call. The media made it a bigger deal then it already was. Its just the medias way of making well known people look bad in the eyes of their fans. I do think there is a certain limit to trash talking. Michael Jourdans speech was terrible. He just ripped on everybody including his kids. There was nothing uplifting about his speech and he didnt thank anybody. The point is that we do expect to much from well known atheletes. In reality they're just as human as us non-millionaires. We tend to twist their lives around and make them look bad because we're jelous. Im jelous of almost every rapper, singer & actor because more than half of them are terrible at what they do.

  5. I think we are very sensitive. People in general react to any feedback from anyone different things could have different outcomes. For example, a woman commented on her body in a negative way will feel ugly or unwanted or it could empower her to see the beauty in herself or in other people. Either way, the way other people comment have made an impact on the way she acts and feels. But in a way, we are as sensitive as we let ourselves be. If you let yourself be affected by the way someone talks about you and it affects the way you perform then you should work on that. There are some places people shouldn't go but it's all about self control.

  6. Ok if your not an athlete don't answer this blog. Ok first off why would they use all black people as examples in this article. iDidn't see them come at the Raiders coach about being sensitive after he punched one of his employees nor did they mention Roger Federa's melt down after a late call. Anyway athletes are not sensitive it's just the competitive drive that every athlete should have, nobody likes to lose and most of the time when a call doesn't go your way you tend to let your emotions get the best of you. Perfect example when iPlayed in this basketball league last year my team was about to lose and iEnded up getting ejected because iThrew Trent Gray to the ground which gave them two technical shots and the ball. So emotions are a part of the and every athlete deals with them.

  7. In many ways us as people we can be way to sensitive about a situation or things that go on and dont work in the way that we want them to. To me sensitive is like a gard or wall that can get switched on very easily and can make you snap at times. It also causes insecuritys that one has about them selves to become worse they already dont like what they did or what they look like and for you to push buttons causes emotional stress. I also feel as though if your way to sensitive about a person or yourself its always easy to take advantage and you go looking for love in all the wrong places and try to get attention in all the wrong ways. So you start to disrespect yourself and then there is no way to change what you did people already sterio typed you.

  8. Yeah as humans we are we think the world works for us when it does not and people snaping out and acting up while under stress is always likely to happen. That is life people get stressed and lose it everynow and then they just lost it in the public eye and as such are being criticised for the totally nowmal behavoir. That is human nature to mock and strike down those who mess up but will not admit their own mistakes. Though some behavoir is unacceptable like Kenya and Taylor incident that was not at all right he could have waited to say what he said then got kicked out he should not have interupted Taylor that was wrong. Humans are to sensitive they do not like facing reality and reality strikes at the worst time for some like Serena she lost her cool and she was nder alot of pressure most people would have snapped out sooner than she did and even she has training in order to not lose it but that kind of pressure is insane. I do not pity them for their conduct but rather that the world is viewing them as bad people when they are being totally normal is most senses. The world always sees athletes as better but they are still human just stronger and faster but they are human and have emotions just not the best is shown of them when the mind is under pressure and Michael Jordon was right he was being honest and people hate the truth when it hurts but i like what he did he did not give a long fake speech he did he gets the credit.

  10. i think humans are too sensitive. when it comes down to their egos and pride.the smallest thing can make someone snap. humans dont like to be embarrased and when they are they start to challenge. when someone's pride is hurt they will try to recover by making themselves look more superior. i think everyone is human and when someone famous acts out of element the media blows it out of porportion. i think people are expecting too much from these people because they are famous doesnt mean they have to be always a contained.

  11. I think we are just a little too sensitive. I hate how the media blows everything out of proportion when some famous says something negative. Everyone has outburts and angry comments, so why is it such a big deal when a celebrity or famous athlete do the same things that the average person does. Serena William's outburst wasn't even that serious, she was just mad, and said something threatening. Everyone does it, so why does the media make it look all serious. We expect the infamous to be this goodie two shoes type of person when they are just like everyone else.

  12. Personally I think that we are too sensitive. I mean us as fans, tend to forget that the people that we are cheering and rooting for are human too. Its not like they are perfect angels sent from heaven to play sports. They have temper too and feelings like anyone else. Serena was mad at the moment and thats how most people who are mad act when they are mad. And MJ probaly felt that he had to express what he needed when he got that hall of fame award. Just like Ye, I mean it was wrong to steal Taylors moment, but I mean he is human too. He prob didnt think of any outcome when he walked up stage, he just wanted to be "funny" and speak his mind...I mean, what else could you expect from Ye?

  13. Ummm...after reading this article I was a little confused about what they were talking about, so I guess I’m going to answer the blog question. Do I believe that we are too sensitive? When it comes to sports, No I don’t believe we are. The reason I say this is because in sports, people tend to cheat, and do things that only us as the athlete notices. When you play a sport you take it serious, and when you know deep down that you are being cheated, you feel angry, and sometimes you may not know how to control it. Also in this article it seem like they were attacking the race of African Americans. I don’t think anything should be based upon race especially a sport, we should all be treated equally.

  14. i think that we are not to senstive and we do not expect alot from them i think that everyone ha a temper and it comes out at some point in time because your feelings are sometimes hurt because as an athletic celebrity you are being put down by so many people who you want to prove things to and to make it so far and to be turned down or lose by something so stupid like a rule that was ancient that some one else did but they only catch you because your a young black male or female with alot of skill. i would be crushed and i would snap out to because there are many unfair decision and we don't agree and that's the way of life but you have to understand that your not out there almost everynight running up and down and making physical contact with the other people as strong as you if not bigger and sometimes you are sick but you fight through it and then for some one to tell you, you messed up i would be devistated. and sometimes i know that we may forget somethings and we know we do but we try our best and we are good at what we do or we wouldn't be doin it.

  15. I think that we do expect to much out of these athelets. There only human. They get fustrated and angry when things don't go there way like Serina Williams. We can't get mad at her for the fact is we would get angry too especially If we were in her position. Now People that do things like Michael Jordan, I can see why the media picked at him. He didn't show any appreciation. He basically is thick headed and self centered. I think for a person to be in his type of position, I don't think anybody could of got there by themselves and for him to basically thank him self can be considered wrong. We do expect to much out of celebrities because we use there life as entertainment, and when they do something normal like yell at there child in public, the media turns it into something worse. I think they have the right to get amgry because they are always in the spotlight and its not fair of us to expect them not to be normal.

  16. I have no idea what this article is neccasarily talking about but I'll answer the question of if I think that we take this too seriously and I think we do. If your favorite athlete or team isn't doing good then you aren't doing good. We put ourselves into the game like we're actually apart of the team. I guess it's because of all the dedicataion. Athletes are people just like us it's not a big deal for us to get all hype over them. They're just regular people but I think they probably feel pressured since people will still closely observe them anyways so they may feel like they can't mess up because all eyes are on them. When they do something bad we act like the world is coming to an end just because they were being normal people and getting upset.

  17. I don't know what to say about this article. I think in a way athletes today are sensitive when it comes to winning or losing a game. They overreact in many ways in which ... they talked about in this article. I think that yes, you can be sensitive to a loss. I mean you lost, who wouldnt be mad about that? But at the same time you have to be mature about it and be respectful to the person that beat you. It was an honest win, and I don't think a lot of people can handle losses. I also think this article is kind of racist to the fact that they only mentioned black people overreacting in these situations. I know there has to be numerous times where some white people overrreacted in a game because they lost! Overrall, I agree with this article. People need to start to be respectful and deal with the fact that they lost a game!

I think that we as a society have gotten to sensitive. The biggest example I can take from the article is Michael Jordan’s Hall of fame speech. I don’t think he was being arrogant or disrespectful. I think he was talking about the people in his career that inspired him to do better. Also I look at cartoons today. When I was a kid we had cartoons like Ren and Stimpy, Angry Beavers and Invader Zim. Now my little brothers and sister watch sponge Bob and the most violent thing that happens on there is someone eats a Krabby Pattie. The old Looney Toons are totally too violent for the kids of today. People got shot and punched and Peppie Lapue used to sexually harass cats. Even my beloved wrestling has become sissified. There used to be a wrestling promotion called ECW. They used to have hardcore matches every week. Now they have one once a year. I guess safety and feelings are more important than fun and that makes me sad.

  19. I think that some people are more sensitive than others, and some people are dramatically sensitive to the world and others. Sometimes we except great expectations from others knowing that there can always be a different outcome. Serena Williams for example, has been playing tennis all her life and we belittle her because she didn't do as good as we had expected. I also believe that at times we don't know how to let things go. These people like Serena, Jordan, and LeBron are professional athletes and it is normal for them to screw up. The problem is with us being too sensitive about it. Basically, its really about having and expectation that wasn't met as one planned that makes us act this way. The sports haven't changed a bit but our expectations sure did.

  20. Yes I do think that we as a country are way too sensitive. Every time someone in the media feels that a celebrity is not being gracious and makes it like the person is wrong. And the people of the outside world, which is us, take in the media and begin to feel the same way the media feels. Like for example on the VMA’s when Kanye West interrupted Taylor’s shine and now the whole world hates him. Yes, Kanye West was very wrong for interrupting Taylor’s shine and he was disrespectful for doing that because he would not want someone to do that to him. But is that enough for the world to hate him and make him a celebrity outcast. Everybody should know by now that Kanye West speaks what he feels no matter what people think but I don’t think everybody should shame him. The world is once being too sensitive for two reasons, one because she is a girl and two because she is young. But I can understand the way the world feels but what happened to say “sticks and stones can break your bones but words can never harm me”. People are being way too sensitive about that situation. Or like when Chris Brown and Rihanna got into that fight and everybody started to hate Chris Brown. The world was once again being too sensitive and, at that time they were acting like physical abuse by the male in the relationship was something new. It has been going on for many years, but the world went super sensitive on Chris Brown and treated him horrible, because they wanted to be too sensitive.

  21. we are pretty sensitive when it comes to celebrity athletes. it's because they're in the big league and are expected not to mess up or act up. and when they do they are criticized by it. athletes take it hard when they're under all this stress and in the end they lose a game. it's difficult to hold their head up high when everyone is bringing them down. so it's ony nature if they get really really mad and act out. if it's only once in awhile then it's ok.. but if they do it all the time then it's ok to criticize them. they are still role models to people so they should act like it. but they're human and it's ok to mess up here and there.

  22. I think that we are way too sensitive. I don't think that people should act that way. I mean just because they're athletes doesn't mean that they're superhuman. They are prone to getting upset and mad and everything just like we are. I'm sure some of the spectators probably yelled at someone the other day or got smart too. People say how they feel, and just because LeBron James and Serena Williams are top athletes in their sports doesn't mean they aren't human. Nobody's perfect, and no matter who you are you can only be pushed but so far. Even if you're an athlete, you can only take but so much before you explode or do something someone's not going to like. They were under a lot of pressure, and any regular person may have snapped way before.

  23. truthfully, i do think that we are expecting too much from these athletes as fans and as people in the media. i really think that as famous athletes people are looking at them too much, and expecting them to do just more than play their sport. it don't think it is the media's concern on how they handle things. for example, serena's response to her loss in a match. she was cussing and stuff. of course she is going to be mad she worked hard, and she wasnted to win. that doesn't mean that it is bad sportsmanship, it just means that she is mad, just like i am because i typed a lot about this blog, and my computer shut off so i had to retype it, and i can't even remember half of what i wrote. but anyway, i do think that fans and media needs to let these athletes live their lives, and stop respnding to how they respond to their career. only they are getting paid for what they do, so people need to let them do their jobs how they want, and how they are trained. expecting too much from them might not do anything but discourage them. so i think it is best that we let them work at their own pace.

  24. We are to sensitive in what atheletes say and do during games. The media tends to drag it to make worst then it really is. The examples that athletes set for young children is very important but they are only human like everyone else and we get upset and speak our minds so and they should be able to do the same. The consequences shouldnt be more harsh to some athletes then others, every athlete should be treated the same, ethnicity shouldn’t matter. they are role models but we shouldnt dependent on them to set example for children. most athletes do not consider themselves athletes they're just doing what they love to do. the media pays to much attention to athletes and blames them for everything that goes wrong with children, whether true or not.
